Chapter 4: The world that marches on - REPRESSION

The “Three Brothers Mountains”, an expanse of mountainous terrain named for a trio of near identical mountains - Standing in a line, it is said they wait for their father to return... For what purpose would three mountains be considered brothers? For what purpose have they been given an identity? For what purpose have their hundreds of neighbouring siblings been left out of the name? Is their father also a mountain? For what purpose have just three been given life?

My moment of weakness and poor planning last week has forced me to hire creatures known as “contractors”; shortly after the fire had petered out it had come to my attention that many small parts of the estate were wooden, most notably the door and outbuildings. Now there are men trouncing about and making such a horrible racket which makes reading quite the nuisance - In positive news, my stunt has left me with a large excess of fertiliser and renewed vigor.

Looking out from the window of my room, I can see that the extent of the damage to the forest at large was hardly notable; forest fires are a perfectly natural part of life, I know for a fact that this wasn’t the first fire of my creation it has shrugged off, and I can say for sure that it won't be the last. The workers say that the minimal damage was a stroke of good luck, I say that they have no idea what they’re talking about - Not to their face of course, both short and long term relations like this are best kept impersonal through the mutual agreement to remain polite and cold, the mutual agreement to remain distant from the other. To show any true emotion is to complicate things beyond that which the heart can handle, no matter who the other party may be.

Soon the forest will forgive even if it will never forget, once the contractors finish their work, the three of us will be left alone once again. I shall ignore the forest, the forest shall ignore me. I shall build a relationship with the new garden, the new garden shall build a relationship with me. If my creation decides to abandon my will, I will not be hurt - Such things have happened many times before, with each subsequent attempt at giving life, the process will become more streamlined, the act of failure will become less suffocating, even if the act of success will remain unattainable.
