Toparo ~ reDream
Story:
Despite the widening of his own eyes, and the mounting horror on his face, the God standing before Muot continued after turning away from him; her wings catching every flicker of light from the last few shards of Muot’s world disappearing.
“That is what I would say before striking you from existence… Every record of every life you’ve touched erased.” the woman turns back to face Muot, a gentle smile appearing on her face. “However, I have received… good word about you from a very dear friend of mine.” In an instant, the world reforms around the both of them, the crater and cliff restored to what they once were. “I will let you stay here and form this world as you please, your own eternal sandbox free of impurity - On one condition.” at this, Muot relaxes his posture for the first time in weeks, he speaks for the first time in years.
“Any price, name it… and I’ll give you safe passage out of this world, *my* world.” The God of dreams simply laughs.
“Very well!” She claps her hands together and takes a step closer to Muot “All I require is an assistant. I, the God of dreams, am a very busy person - Whenever I require you, for any reason, you must be at my beck and call; with your immense power, you shall be my sword in every battle I face.” she turns to face the ocean, and gestures towards it “And when I don’t need you, you can return here, to a paradise of your own creation. Deal?”
He thinks about the proposition for a moment, even though his mind is already made up “In all my years, I have never heard a more reasonable thing come out of a living creature's mouth…” Muot turns to the God and extends an arm “Deal.” her eyes narrow as her smile grows just a touch, she turns to once again face Muot and shakes his hand.”
“It’s settled… although, I’m sure there must have been *something* someone has said that’s more reason-”
“Don’t ruin my moment, butterfly!” Lighthearted frustration enters his voice as he interrupts her.
“It’s D-E-Papilion not ‘butterfly,’ although my friends call me Maria.”
“Very well *Maria,* you can call me Mu-” D-E-Papilion returns the favour by interrupting him with another laugh.
“Muot Rih, I’ve heard plenty about you - But I have to say, I didn’t think I’d like your attitude, but if you insist, maybe we’re already friends.”
Music Comment:
This track is pretty new; it was made specifically for reDream. This is the one album specific piece of music here, so I wanted to create something that wouldn’t really fit anywhere in a game. It uses the ‘theme of Decay’ as this is its origin; this is the second of two tracks made for MoWS that still ended up in the album. I tried making something that was ‘experimental’ for my standards (a statement which may raise some eyebrows considering the quality of the rest of the music), I definitely learned a decent bit from making it though, so I’m happy with it.
Listening to this music while reading the story creates a very different impression of the ending, doesn’t it? You’re probably better off experiencing the music and story separately, but it’s interesting to have one influence the other - I wonder if we’ll ever find out what happens to Muot and D-E-Papilion after this?
