State of Decay #25 (October 2026): Small updates.

Well, now that the anniversary’s over - Back to having not much to talk about!

There’s not exactly *nothing* (as usual) but for the purposes of there being anything interesting, yeah, there’s nothing. I suppose before the usual gunf I do have a thing or two to natter on about: firstly this is SoD number 25! That means I’m a quarter of the way to triple digits as long as you ignore the two SoDS… That’s fun, if a little scary although there are twelve numbered SoD’s a year, so there’s still quite a few years to go before that…

Good thing I’ll be long dead before I could ever get to four digits (^^;

The other thing is that new Touhou? Didja’ play it? I did, and I found it quite good~ But I’m not here to talk about my opinion of the game, I’m only even mentioning it because I’m going to “””borrow””” two ideas from it, the first thing is that sexy as hell spell practice mode; it’s real good and having the little medals to show completion almost turns it into a little scene game rather than just a way to practice (sucks there’s no nons and no stage sections though, this would’ve been the perfect opportunity to add those finally) - Yoink! The second thing is the ‘challenge mode’ which is identical to a feature that I’ve already added to my own game, but the presentation of it in New Classic is way better than mine - Yoink!

Anyway, how about the small updates then? Uh… nothing of note really (^^; I said sound effects would be done by now but they evidently aren’t, otherwise I would’ve been boasting about that for the whole post - Basically I just kind of didn’t end up finishing them, blame the new Touhou and the fact I was otherwise preoccupied for a full week near the beginning of the month doing something non-Toparo… Oh well, there are two more big things I’ve done this month though (that are worth talking about at least) first is the fact I’ve organised all of the bullet sprites! What do I mean by that? Effectively, they’re in a form that’s far far quicker to import than they were already, imagine individually copy pasting 20,000+ sprites compared to just a few hundred (this took a *whole week* of moving stuff in MSpaint by the way, putting in at least three hours a day, usually more!) The other thing is that I’ve started writing the script for MoWS, I don’t have much to say on that front other than the fact I’m already almost done with the first pass of the A route, just the ending to go - So that’s nice~

Otherwise there’s one tiny little thing worth mentioning that’s gotten into my head and just won't leave me alone, nothing that’ll be relevant for a long time, but I just can’t stop thinking about… *it* A big project, like *the* big project, something that reads like a pie in the sky idea, but after only a few years (cough, how has it already been that long, cough) of gamedev and seeing what I’ve already made - It looks to be *almost* possible to do alone… I won't be making anything other than plans and writing parts of it for the foreseeable future, but I might start chipping away at it in the background now that I’m almost done with assets for MoWS… Seriously, it’s just sound effects to finish, then it’s just music and some menu sprites I’ll make as I need them, then the rest of MoWS is just ‘make the game.’

Anyway, that big project won’t ever distract too much (if at all honestly) for what I’m actively working on at any given time, but I thought I’d mention it because it’ll take up *some* of my time - Assuming I actually get down and dirty with it (^^; I probably won't mention it again for… years, but there you go, there’ll always be *something* I could work on when I want a small but still productive break~

Anyway, anyway, next month should have me boasting about finishing sound effects and honest to god properly getting into the ‘game’ part of making a video game, no more background framework and such while I wait for assets to be done! It might even end up in a state where I show stuff off finally…

Eh, probably not; unless it’s just amusing test footage lol~

This month’s crystal ball grazing: As colours change from green to yellow, remember that there’ll be something else changing too.
