State of Decay #15 (December 2025): Small updates + Additions to the Toparo Music Preview throughout December 2025.
Another year almost over with the new year within grasping distance~ It’s been a somewhat slow year for Toparo hasn’t it? I suppose that’s to be expected considering there have yet to be any releases of any kind still; but a few things did happen here and there - But enough of that! It’s the January SoD where I’m supposed to look over the last year!
In terms of what’s been going on over the past month, there’s been bits and pieces here and there but that can (and should) be glossed over for the fact that I’m done making all of the demo 0 sprites! And beyond demo 0, the only sprites left to draw are: Stage backgrounds, character portraits and a few miscellaneous things for the menus (nothing major or difficult for that last one though). Considering that most of my time is still being used just drawing sprites, it means I can transfer that time into actually working on the *game* part of the videogame as the main focus!
Anyway, another December means another Toparo Music Preview, or rather more additions *to* the Music Preview - Technicalities, technicalities. Not much to say that won't be said by the descriptions of the videos; I suppose doing this three years in a row means that now it’s a tradition… I suppose it does force me to make at least seven pieces of music for the game a year, a very low bar to pass, but it does do a decent job at some minor motivation… Maybe I should post one track on the first of each month as an extra layer of ‘Finish the soundtrack before you drop dead?’ It’d force me to make at least nineteen tracks a year which is a bit better… Maybe~
Anyway, anyway, onto the copy paste part!
‘“A tutorial? What for???” I hear you asking, and to be blunt: exactly one person; not a specific *type* of person, no, just one individual. Basically, the only person I physically know in real life who’ll play my game is someone who doesn’t play shumps… at all - So to Hell with it I said! Might as well make it nice! About the music itself… it’s pretty simple, almost as if I made sure not to put *too* much effort into it… Hmm…’
‘Hey, I recognise this one from last year~ Other than the obvious, you’ll notice that the title no longer specifies that it’s for the ‘Main’ story; that’s because I decided that all openings and endings in each route will just be the same. Why? Well that’s because I decided to split the main story into two parts, meaning I’d have to make eight more pieces of music across all of the routes… This is a small corner I’m willing to cut :P Otherwise it’s the same deal as what I said last year~’
‘Here’s something fresh off the press, I made this in a spur of the moment decision once inspiration struck, all in one sitting too! It’s for the title screen so I wanted it to feel unique which inspired the Metal Man like noise channel, because, you know, it’s the Forgotten Rotting *Technology?* It’s a shame this is a screen you’ll only ever spend five seconds on at most as I quite like this one…’
‘Behold! Probably the composition I’m most proud of, as of right now. I’m not really too sure what exactly makes me so happy with how this one turned out, but this is exactly the sort of thing I’m looking to make each time I sit down to compose - I suppose it’s fitting for the story opening of the guy who’s debatably the main character (at least for this game).’

There you go, another quick and easy SoD done and dusted! I suppose I *will* mention that I initially almost completely forgot about the fact this post would just be about the music preview; I had a decently long SoD ready to make which I was finishing the assets up for and then I remembered next month was December, y’know, the last month of the year?
At least I know what I’m doing for next month’s State of Decay, that’s a rare thing (^^;
